El Kharga area is located in center western desert of Egypt, between latitude 25o 20’ to 25o 50’N and longitude 30o 15’ to 30o 42’ E. It is located on the western side of the River Nile at distance about 150 Km southewst Asyut City.
In the period between 26 to 29 March, 2005 the Airborne Geophysics department of the Nuclear Materials Authority of Egypt conducted a mutichannel gamma-ray survey and high resolution magnetometer covering 2404 square km ( approximaterly, 3799 line km) over El Kharga area and its surrounding . The aim of this survey is to follow the probabley extension of the phosphate Abu Tartour in this region.
