Abstract

The purpose of our study is to determine the ability of using anserine, zinc and their collective combination as prophylactic and\or therapeutic agents to protect and\or to counteract the deteriorative biochemical effects induced by gamma radiation. this will be confirmed by measuring hepatic glutathione, liver lipid peroxides level, plasma nitric oxide level, liver DNA & RNA contents, serum total protein level, serum albumin, level total serum lactate dehydrogenase activity and also, differnt serum protein fractions will be separated by immunoelectrophoresis technique. in addition, LDH isoenzymes will be isolated by electrophoresis. from all the results obtained in the present study, we can conclude that, anserine, a naturally histidine dipeptide, has a pronounced effect in overcoming oxidative stress induced by gamma rediation and the action of anserine can be potentiated by its supplementation with trace elements like zinc and also , the data showed that both antioxidants have curative effect against irradiation-induced biochemical changes especially when given to gather after irradiation more than before irradiation.
