Abstract Grafts between genetically identical individuals (lsografts) or within the same individual (autografts) are uniformaly accepted. Grafts from one individual to another genetically non identical individual of the same species (allografts) usually fail. Similarely, grafting across species barriers (xenografts) also leads to rejection. Allografts have been used extensively, and when a patient is said to have received a graft, it is generally understood that an allograft is meant. Graft rejection may defined as the process by which the immune system of the host recognizes, develop specific elements against , and eliminates the non self of the donor organ. |
