Abstract The present study was done to evaluate the IMCI algorithm between the ages of 2 months and 5 years, and it was carried out on 500 children, who were presented at the outpatient department of Suzan Mubarak, maternal and child health, University hospital and pediatric department of the university hospital, Shebeen Elkoom, in the period between Novamber, 2004 and December, 2005 their ages ranged from 2 months up to 5 years. The studied children were assessed and classified according to the “IMCI” approach, and the treatment steps were identified and recorded in a Performa. Also, they were then assessed, examined and managed according to the protocol of the treating unit, all relevant investigations were done based on the history and detailed clinical examination, then final diagnoses were done and therapies instituted, these diagnoses and treatments were considered as the gold standard The study children were admitted, observed for a period not more than 24 hrs or sent home after the initial evaluation. Each un-immunized or incompletely immunized sick child was immunized and dietary therapy /advise was given to every malnourished child. Hospitalized children were then followed up till discharge; other children were asked to report for routine follow up (3 to 7 days later) to determine the final outcome. |
