Abstract

The aim of this work is to study the effect of iron toxicity on some body organs (liver, kidney &heart) including histopathological study , biochemical analysis and its teratogenic effect on the pregnant females. Also, to determine the protective effect of vitamin E in iron overload disorders. from this study, it is concluded that iron toxicity has an important role in the incidence of hepatic, renal & heart diseases and it can also induce congenital anomalies. Therefore, it is recommended to establish a program to creare public awareness of the potential hazards caused by iron overload and its effect on the pregnant women, these programs should determine iron requirements in different ages. Also , the maternal health care centers must be aware of the suitable dose of iron that should be given to pregnant women to avoid the potential hazards caused by iron overload during pregnancy.
