Abstract Aim of the work To determine the value of ultrasonography versus conventional radiology in diagnosis of obstructive uropathy. Conclusion - If hydronephrosis is of mild degree, P.U.T. and ultrasonography will be helpful as an initial examination. The I.V.U. is indicated when ultrasonography shows normal findings in patients with clinical suspicion of urinary tract obstruction. In moderate hydronephrosis, ultrasonography and I.V.U. give equal results as regards their diagnostic value. In severe hydronephrosis, ultrasonography is essential for the proper diagnosis of the case and measuring the residual parenchymal thickness. Therefore, for investigation of a case of obstructive uropathy we suggest that the best scheme is to start by P.U.T. and ultrasonography and once hydronephrosis is diagnosed, a careful ultrasound examination of the entire urinary system is recommended to detect the site and cause of obstruction. |
