Abstract This study aims at: 1- Descriptive the cytological findings in women using different contraceptive methods. 2- To study the possible correlation between the cervical cytological abnormalities detected during the study and the type of contraceptive method. from this study we can conclude that: 1- Straight forward squamous atypia and cervical dysplastic changes are rare among users of different contraceptive methods in our community from which sample was studied in upper Egypt, squamous atypia (mild dysplasia) was found in 2.7%. 2- IUD users in our study do not have an increased incidence squamous epithelial lesions (except parakeratosis) or infection compared to the control. 3- Pill users in our study do not have an increased incidence of squamous epithelial lesions (except squamous metaplasia) nor infection compared to the control. 4- Infections are less common in the IUD users compared to Pill and Norplant users. 5- The cytological absence of evidence for infection by Chlamydia, Herpes and Human Papilloma could explain the low incidence of dysplasia. 6- Different contraceptive methods used in the studied community do not predisposed to cervical pathology. |
