Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to study the effect of combined steroidal contraceptive pills on the cervix cervical cytology and colposcopy was carried out prior to the use of combined steroidal contraceptive pills. Then after three months and six months of their oral or vaginal use.
Conclusions:
No new cases of H.P.V. were discovered within the vaginal group throughout the treatment period.
Only one case of candidiasis was detected, a statistically insignificant incidence.
The cytological findings didn’t suggest any tendency to cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia either in the oral or the vaginal group.
Colposcopic data collected from this study can be summarized as follows:
In both groups, there was statistically very highly significant increase in the incidence of insignificant colposcopic findings e.g. ectopy, ectropion…etc.
In both groups, there were decreases in the incidence of unsatisfactory colposcopic findings at the end of the study.
Data collected from this study did not show significant cytologic or colposcopic differences between the oral and the vaginal group.
The introduction of vaginal contraceptive pills (V.C.P) to the family planning programme in Egypt will provide an additional method of contraception which will suit certain of Egyptian population hoping this will increase the number of women using contraception for their family welfare.
Also colposcopy is still a limited gynaecologic art which is in need for more training for the new gynaecological generations to achieve its complementary role to the cytology regarding early detection of cancer cervix.
