The term hyperparathyroidism is applied to those clinical disorder characterized by an increase in concentration of circulating PT.H and increase in serum calcium level.
The primary hyperparathyroidism was due to parathyroid adenoma in 80% of cases, multiple parathyroid adenoma in 15 % of cases and multiglandular hyperplasia in 5 % of cases.
All the secondary hyperthyroidism were multiglandular hyperplasia.
The disease is characterized by general symptoms of elevated serum calcium, P.T.H levels and/or associated condition these are manifested by early faligability, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, weight loss,polyurea, polydepsia mental depression, dementia with later complication including genitourinary tract, skeletal, gastrointestinal and neuromuscular systems.
The diagnosis rest upon biochemical determinations the most important of these are serum calcium, phosphorous, chloride. Alkaline phosphatase and PTH.
