Abstract Aim of the work 1- To evaluate the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among patients with psychocutaneous disorders attending the dermatology outpatient clinic at EL-Minia university hospital. 2- To evaluate the following aspects of the personality: a- Personality traits. b- Ego defenses. c- Alexithymia. 3- To assess the quality of life in those patients. 4- To investigate the relation between quality of life and the presence of a psychiatric disorder or personality variables. Conclusion The prevalence of psychiatric morbidity was 33.3% for psychodermatologic patients that was statistical significant in comparison to the control. Major depression and generalized anxiety was statistically significant in psychodermatologic patients (group I and II) than the control. As for EPQ: psychodermatologic patients showed no specific personality variables compared to the control. Psychodermatologic patients used denial more than the control. They used less neurotic and nature immature defense than the control. Both psychodermatologic patients and the control fell in the alexithymic categories but the result reaching no statistical significance. Psychodermatologic patients showed marked impairment in their Qo1 as measured by QOLS. On the other hand measuring QOL by DLQI revealed that both total sample and group II showed marked impairment on their QOL while group I was not impaired. Psychiatric illness and personality were related to impairment of QOL. |
