Abstract Aim of the work 1- To evaluate some risk factors in patients admitted in neurology & emergency department for recent stroke including age and other demographic characteristics, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, some hematological and blood chemistry variables. 2- Evaluating inflammatory parameters including leukocytic count, C-reactive protein (CRP) and inflammatory mediators (markers of kleukocyte activation) like TNF and sTNFR1 in stroke patients and control. 3- Testing for significant correlation between these variables. Conclusion The present study confirmed the role of age, smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and raised cholesterol and triglyceride as old risk factors of stroke. It also, emphasized the possible risk of some hematological factors like hematocrit value and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in cerebral strokes, as well as the importance of some inflammatory parameters like, CRP, TNF-alpha, sTNFR1 and total leukocytic count. In addition we found significant increase in blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine and decrease in serum albumin in stroke patients compared to control. This might be a true risk factors or consequent to some endemic diseases, a matter which needs more investigation in our locality. |
