Abstract

This thesis includes a phytochernical study of two plants
-rowin in gypt, and belonging to the families Lourninsae and Solanaceae. These two plants are :
A- Lupinus termis F. (Log!1inosae)
3.. oscyaimis albus .L. (Solanaceao).
Part I.
Lupinus tormis F.
The economic value of Lupi.nu’ species depends nainly upon their content of lupin alkaloids which are recently considered to have a cardiac action.
The phytocheical invetitions of Lupinus aIaloids have
been a subject of interest for s3voral workers. It was deemed
f interest and importance to undertake a comreheaiv phyto— &imica1 examination of iupinu termis F. which grows abundantly
in ypt, for the following reasons :
1— To propore a simple, accurate, rspid arid easr method for the assay of lupin alkaloids in termis F.
2— Tn estimate the total alkeloidal content of the different organs of the plant at its different stages of deve]op’ent, using the
