Abstract
The aim of the work is:
1- To study the clinical and epidemiology of pulmonary tuberculosis in EL-Minia Governorate.
2- To identify prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis infection in EL-Minia governorate.
3- Diagnostic significance of clinical data in comparison with laboratory investigations.
The present study includes 1200 individuals (600) from rural area and (600) from urban area. In period from 1999 to 2001.
In conclusions there is marked increase in the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis in Minia governorate, as it was 1.6% in urban area and 3.5% in rural area by ZN method, 2.5% and 5% by BACTEC method and 2.6% and 5.1% by PCR method.
Recommendations:
1- I would like that tuberculosis program functional well that infectious cases are effectively identified, diagnosed and placed on treatment which renders them non infectious in a short time.
2- BACTIC method is very sensitive and specific for diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis than Ziehl neelsen stain and takes short time than other traditional culture technique.
3- Improving socio-economic state in rural areas will decrease the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis.
4- More studies must be done for pulmonary and extra pulmonary tuberculosis to known the size of the problem exactly for better solutions.
