Abstract The aim of this study is to : 1-Detect the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia in El-Minia City and risk factors that influencing it. 2- Estimate the total number of adults who need fasting lipoprotein analysis and total number of adults who are candidates for medical advice and intervention according to Adult Treatment Panel guidelines. 3- Study the impact of hypercholesterolemia on the development of coronary heart disease. Conclusion: Total hypercholesterolemic subjects were 154 in number with a percentage of 14% of total sample tested. Total number of ischemic individuals among the hypercholesterolemic subjects was 83 (54.1%) individuals. Total number of individuals who require fasting lipoprotein analysis was 84 individuals ( 7.6% of all adults). 92. % of individuals who require fasting lipoprotein analysis were candidates of medical advice and intervention (7% of the sample persons.) Recommendations: The serum cholesterol level safely and inexpensively identifies persons at high risk for a serious and common disease, so we recommend screening primarily for the purpose of detecting and treating severe hypercholesterolemia. |
