Abstract Aim of the work To diagnose streptococcal pharyngitis based on the clinical scoring system and approach to prove it by laboratory investigations and differentiate it from other causes of pharyngitis. Summary and conclusion Patients were classified into two groups according to the results of throat swab culture as following: Group I: positive swab culture, were 45 patients. Group II: negative swab culture, were 55 patients. Throat swab culture still the gold standard for diagnosis of GABHS but limitation of using due to delayed reports. Rapid antigen detection testing, detect GABHS from the throat faster than the throat culture but throat culture is more confirmatory. This study shows 45 patients with positive culture, all of them have score ≥4. Patients with positive antigen detection test were 37 from positive swab culture, have score ≥4. The nine factors scoring system is sufficiently accurate and simple for diagnosis of GABHS. We recommend its use in clinical situation. |
