Abstract Conclusion From our research was found that patients with bleeding esophageal varices must be classified according to modified Child Pugh classification into class A, B and C. The therapeutic modality, suitable for every patient, should be tailored according to Child class (especially prothrombin time, serum albumin and total bilirubin) and grade of varices, viz. class A with esophageal varices grade II suitable for medical treatment, class B with esophageal varices grade III or IV suitable for endoscopic variceal sclerotherapy or endoscopic variceal ligation, class C with esophageal varices grade III or IV suitable for combined treatment ( endoscopic variceal sclerotherapy plus endoscopic variceal ligation). Compined treatment proved that it is the best as regard short eradication time, few sessions, dealing with advanced cases and end-choice after failure of other modalities. |
