Abstract In this work an attempt is made to clarify the goals and risks of the use of corticosterosteroids in the treatment of various forms of herpetic keratitis. At last, it was concluded that topical corticosteroids enhance viral proliferation and are contraindicated in active epithelial herpetic keratitis .when atromal keratitis is not associated with epithelial herpetic ulcer, antiviral chemotherapy is essential in the treatment and if a topical steroid have to used, the minimal effective dose should be given, avoiding abrupt withdrawal with a gradual tapering and steroid dilutions can be formulated. In disconfirm keratitis, topical acyclovir either alone in patients who had previously had steroids, or in combination with low tapered doses of steroids have proven effective. in zoster ocular disease, mild inflammation does not require any treatment whereas in more severe problems a combination of acyclovir and steroid is appropriate. |
