Abstract
Nutritional disorders are common in young children in developing countries and constitute a major public health problem. The prevalence rate varies from country to country, depending on the biological characteristics and socioeconomic status of the population. When food supplies are very low, people do not get enough nutrients. Children are the first to be affected. So, this study aims to improve the nutritional status of infants and children with protein energy malnutrition (PEM).
Infants and young children who are admitted to Shebin El-Kom University Hospital for treatment and meet the inclusion criteria were enrolled into the study.
Initially we evaluate the hospital menu and modify it through using the references of dietary recommendations for protein energy malnutrition patients. Then study parameters which estimated for selected children at admission and after dietary intervention. The children have been divided into the following groups:
