Last but not least, despite encouraging research and improvements in treatment, successful treatment of cervical spinal cord injuries rests with prevention. Public awareness campaigns, injury prevention programs, promotion of automotive safety devices, and civil legislation with regard to seat-belt laws, alcohol abuse, and gun control enforcement are the most effective ways to reduce the cost, of this devasting injury to the individual and society.
