Abstract Experimental and theoretical investigations of the electronic absorption spectra of pyrimidine, purine and benzimidazol derivatives have been considered. Chapter one: includes a general survey on the previous studies of the electronic structure and spectra using different molecular orbital methods. The second chapter deals with the experimental part of this work. A spectrophotometer (Shimadzu 160-A) was used for the measurements of the absorption spectra for the twelve derivatives in 15 different solvents [Water, Chloroform, 2-Methyl-1-propanol, Methanol, 1,4-dioxan, dimethyl-sulfoxide, 1-butanol, carbon tetrachloride, 3-methyl-1-butanol, diethyl ether, ethanol, N,N-dimethylforamide, Acetonitrile, 1,2-dichloroethane, 1-propanol] at room temperature. The general procedure for the synthesis of the above mentioned compounds together with the general methods for purification of the solvents for spectral measurements are also given. |
