Abstract
Infestation with land gastropods was obviously increased in the last years. For instances, percent of infested localities (in relation to all localities of Sharkia Governorate) was 3.62 % in 1997, however this value was markedly increased to 9.36 and 24.04 % in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Twenty host plants infested with gastropod species at five districts of Sharkia Governorate were listed. It was clear that, Monacha sp. and S. putris infested mainly field and vegetable crops, while H. vestalis, C. acuta and E. vermiculata were distributed mainly on fruit trees and ornamental plants. However, Deroceras sp. were detected on fruit trees, field and vegetable crops. On the other hand, population density of snail and slug species differed from host plant to another and from district to another also. Spatial distribution of M. cartusiana was contagious on egyptian clover, cabbage and lettuce, while it was regular on broad bean and cauliflower. However, dispersion was random on wheat. Moreover, land snail species could be arranged descendingly according to their prominence value in Sharkia Governorate as follows: Monacha sp.> C. acuta >E. vermiculata > H. vestalis .
