Abstract

Summary:- Foodborn diseases are a widely spreading and growing public health problem, in both developed and developing countries. Although it is difficult to estimate the global incidence of these diseases accurately, World Health Organization (WHO) has assured that this incidence is growing rapidly specially in the last decade, with a great occurrence in children.Salmonella microorganisms are one of the most important causative agents of food poisoning, so this study was planned to achieve the following items: (1) Estimation of the incidence of Salmonella organisms from different sources of animal origin as live poultry, eggs, poultry meat, beef meat and milk products, and also of human origin as food handlers and patients suffering from food poisoning. (2) Serotyping of the isolated Salmonella species and identifying the prevalent serotypes causing food poisoning with a special concern to (Salmonella enteritidis).(3) Evaluation of the role of ELISA in detection of Salmonella enteritidis antibodies.(4) Throwing light on antimicrobial sensitivity for strains of Salmonella enteritidis. Our study included the following:A total of 567 samples were collected represented in: -Fourty eight stool samples from patients suffering from symptoms of food poisoning which were diarrhoea, fever and some of them were having vomiting).
