Abstract
-The aim of the present work is to study: the taxonomy, external morphology, sexual dimorphism and internal anatomy of palaamon elegans RATHKE 1837, collected from Lake Quaroun, Fayoum, Egypt.
-In ancient times, the lake was used as reservoir for freshwater of the Nile flood. At present time, the lake is facing a serious problem that affected the aquatic life due to the progressive increase of its salinity as a result of high rate of evaporation and accumulation of salts which are washed out of the neighboring agricultural lands. In 1928, a programme of transportation of some marine organisms, with fish, from the Mediterranean was initiated. Palaemon elegans was among the orustaoean organisms which were introduced to the lake.
