Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the feeding behavior of the stored products beetle, oryzae philus Surinamensis, Light perception and effect of different kinds of pheromones as a feasible method for the control of this insect. The following facts are revealed. (1)Feeding behaviour: . 1-Beeties feeding was vitamins and inorganic salts, of the proteins tested, Oasein was best feeding stimulant. The order of effectiveness of sugars as feeding stimulants was: Fructose>Starch>Sucrose>galactose. 2-The beetles were sensitive to different concentrations of fructose and casein. The higher response to fructose was 0.05 m. and that to casein was 259m/100ml. 3-from fatty acids, oleic acid had the highest response. 4-The inorganic salts, Nacl and k2Hpo4 acted synergistically with other feeding stimulants. 5-The stimulants were more effective when they were mixed in as complex media than in agar alone. |
