Abstract

The project was designed to study the removal of color from effluents using adsorption techniques .the feasibity of bagasse pith as an adsorbent for the removal of colour from effluents has been investigated . four pith_dye adsorption system have been studied .the dyes being acid blue 25 acid red 114 besic blue 69 and basic red 22 the pith was used untreated and as provided from abou_korkes suger mill el-minia Egypt . the adsorption equilibrium isotherms for the four dyes have been characterized and batch kinetic studies have been carried out to indentify the mess transfer adsorption rate controlling factors .several mathematical models have been developed describing the experimental results for the batch systems two single resistance models one based on external mass transfer only and another besed on interaparticle diffusion only were developed but achieved only limited success . atwo resistance model besed on external mass transfer and pore diffusion was cuccessfully applied to predicting the performance of agitated batch adsorbers afurther development utilising external mass transfer and solid phase diffusion was successfully applied to the design of agitated bathch adsorberse.
