Abstract The persent investigation is an extension of the work iniated in this laboratory since 1972 and concerned with stem basal rot of geranium cuttings: It aimed at providing further informations on the identity of the causal organisms;their physiological properties; and on measures of controll¬ing the disease: It was possible to identify 13 fungal isolates repersen¬ting 10 different species. There were: Absidia corymbifera (one isolate) ,AspergilluS niger(one isolate), curvularia state of Cochliobolus lunatus ( one isolate) , Drechslera isolate of Cochliobolus spicifer ( two isolates), Fusarium moniliforme ( two isolates), F. oxysporum ( one isolate),F.solani (two isolates), Microascus albo-nigrescens ( one isolate), Rhizoctonia state of tanatephorus cucumeris ( oneisolate), and Sclerotium sp. ( one isolate). pathogenicity tests revealed that Rhizoctonia satate of thanatephorus cucumeris_ ( Rhizoctonia solani),fusarium oxysporum, F.solani, _F.moniliform_, and Sclerotium sp.are are induce the disease (basal rot of geranium euttings), whereas Absidia corymbifera. AspergilluS niger, Cochliobous lunatus Cochliobolus spicifer, and Microascus albo-nigres¬ cens are not. The pathogenic fungi varied considerably as regards degree of severity to geranium cuttings. Rhizoctonia solani caused 100%infection ,F.oxysporum 44% ,F.solani 32-36%,f.moniiforme 28-32%,and sclerotium SP .24%. |
