Abstract The present investigation was concerned with fruit of pepper and eggplant ,which prevalent during transit and marketing. Investigation studies proved that pepper and eggplant fruit rot is caused by Alternaria alternata (fries)keissler. Five isolates of A. alternata obtained from rotted pepper fruits and ten from rotted eggplant fruits were secured from naturally infected fruits purchased in the local market. These isolates were not similarly virulent on fruits of both crops. Pepper, eggplant tomato,orange,lemon and pear fruits were susceptible to A. alternata, whereas potatotubers were not infected by either of the tested isolates of the fungus. Leaves of pepper, eggplant, tomato, potato, tobacco, soybean,broad bean,peanut,cotton and sunflower infected with both isolates of A. alternata with different degrees of susceptibility. |
