Abstract

the present investigation was carried out at the Experimental Farm of mallawi Agricultural Research station, Minia Governorate during the two successive seasons of 1996 and 1997. the main purpose of this work was to study the responses of growth and yield of Giza 83 Egyptian cotton cultivar to plant population density and growth regulator mepiquat chloride (Pix) under early and late planting dates. The two planting dates involved in this study were carried out on March 27th and and April 24th in1996 season and on March 23th and April 25th in 1997season. Three levels of plant population density were used in this study resulted from sowing seeds at 25,20 and 15c.m between hills and leaving two plants per hill at the thinning time in order to obtain 56000, 70000 and 93333 plants/faddan, respectively. The growth regulator mepiquat chloride (Pix) was used as foliar application at the start of flowering, one flower per meter of row, with four concentration i.e. 0,50, 100,150p.p.m.
