Abstract The Nile bifurcates at a distance of about 23 km north cairo into two branches, rosetta and damietta. Damietta branch, the area of the present study, runs a distance of about 238 km northward to open into Mediterranean Sea. The average width of this branch amounts to 270 m and its average depth reaches 7m. several islands are found in damietta branch mainly at the meandery regions. Between faraskour and Damietta cities, lies Faraskour’s earthern permanent Dam, which separates two different aquatic environments, the fresh water(infront of the dam) from station I-Ix (Region A) and the mostly sea water (behind the dam) from station X-XIV (Region B), communicated by a narrow canal in the western bank. |
