Abstract In the recent years, the use of the environmental resources has substantially increased with the development of pertroleum-based economies that require sea transport for petroleum exports; the growth of international dive tourism; expansion of national and international fisheries operations; coastal developments; and general population growth in the coastal zone. Generally, the land based activities and the ships in the studied area are the main source of POPs and heavy metals in the GULF OF Aden. Bottom sediments are normally the final sink of both for natural and anthropogenic components produced or delivered to the marine environment. |
