Abstract Histologically, the cortical zone of the parahippocampal gyrus, hippocampal formation and dentate gyrus show a gradual transition from six to three layered cellular organization. The cortex of the hippocampal formation has three fundamental layers: the polymorphic, pyramidal and molecular layers. Several secondary laminae are formed by the arrangement of axons and dendrites of cells within these layers. The most |
