Abstract
This work aims to identify the best cultivares of gartic mder local couniditions prevailing in AL-Minia governorate , in adition to practice clone selection , within such varieties maracterized by higher yield and better auality . four culti-ars were used namlely BALADY , AMERICAN , BAHRAWI and CHINESE . selection procedure extended for three seasons . in order to btain the genetic make up necessary for this plan six thouth and plants were developed in the ffield of each cultivar in the first year , representing the first generation (G)two wndred foyrty individual plants were selected on basis of menotypic performance , out of each cultivar . in the second ceason , each individual selected bulb was cultivated to est- blish progeny clones as the second generation (G1) on cured height basis the clones of different cultivars were plotted in frequency distribution where 10% of clones were selsctsd or establishing the third generation (G2)
