Abstract

For many years the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) has been one of the most serious pests of many different economic crops in Egypt. Both the adult whiteflies and immature stages feed on the foliage and when numerous, weaken growth and induce wilting of the host plants. The principal injury, however, is caused by the excretion of honey-dew by which falls in profusion on foliage and fruits. Under certain conditions this gives rise to the growth of a dark ” Sooty mould ” which inteferes seriously with the respiratory function of the leaves.
Therefore, the present investigation was carried out with an attempt to added some contributions to our available knowledge on the bionomics of this pest in Minia region throughout the 1981 and 1982 growing seasons.
