Abstract The present investigation was conducted during, 2001, 2002 and 2003 summer seasons at Mallawi Agric. Res. St. Minia Governorate, Egypt, ARC, the purpose of this investigation was to estimate combining ability, gene action, genetic components and heterosis in sesame. Seven genetically diverse sesame genotypes were used for this study. In 2001 season all possible crosses among parents, without reciprocals, were done to make a diallel series of 21 hybrids. In 2002 season, 28 entries, i.e., seven parents and 21 hybrids, were sown and the parents were crossed again to obtain more enough hybrid seeds. Moreover, the F1 plants of three crosses were backcrossed to their parents to produce Bc1 (F1xP1) and Bc2 (F1xP2) for each cross and the F2 seeds were harvested from the selfed F1 plants. In 2003 season, two experiments were conducted, the first experiment involved parents, F1 hybrids. The second experiment involved parents, F1,F2,Bc1 and Bc2 populations of each of the three crosses. Arandomized complete block design with three replications was adopted for each experiment. |
