Abstract

This study was conducted during two consecutive seasons of 2003 and 2004 in a private vineyard situated at El- Tal Western village, Dear Moase district, El- Minia Governorate on uniform in vigour and head trained Red Roomy grapevines. The selected vines are grown in a clay soil and spaced at 2 x 2 meters apart. Surface irrigation system was followed.
The goal of this study was to recognize the effect of some summer pruning treatments on bud behaviour, vegetative growth, plant pigments, chemical composition of canes, berry set %, yield, cluster and wood ripening and characteristics of Red Roomy grapes. The ultimate scope was to evaluate about sixteen summer pruning practices and to find out the best summer pruning practice which may accompanied with producing an economical yield with the best quality of clusters as well as maintaining vine vigour. The effect of summer pruning practices on alleviating the two drawbacks of Red Roomy grapevines namely cluster looseness and shot berries % was also concerned.
