Abstract

With a changing demographic profile and an increasingly aging population in almost all societies, it is inevitable that benign prostatic hyperplasia will become more prevalent and a major challenge for all health care systems in the near future. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is the most common pathologic condition in older men and the second most common cause of surgical intervention in men over 60 years. Urinary problems produced by BPH are often very distressing and severely affect quality of life of elders.Thus, effective management of these symptoms should be viewed as an urgent geriatric care need. It requires health care providers to be aware of utilizing non pharmacological (life style) measures which are one of the important components of comprehensive approach to symptom relief.So, the aim of the study was to identify quality of life of elderly patients who suffers from symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia The study was carried out in the out patient clinic of urology department, Alexandria Main University Hospital. The sample was composed of 100 patients aged 60 years and above, diagnosed as having benign prostatic hyperplasia. Each elderly patient was interviewed individually to collect Data was.
