Abstract
Two field experiments were performed at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University during two successive seasons of 1995 and 1996 to study the effect of sowing dates, plant population densities, cultivars and their interactions on growth, yield and its components in addition to seed chemical contents of soybean( Glycine maz L.Merr.).
A split-split plot design with four replications was used in both seasons.
The main plots were randomly assigned to the three dates of sowing i.e., April 5 th , May 5 th and June 5 th. The sub-plots were allocated to the three plant population densities of 16, 22 and 28 plants per linear meter represent 112000; 154000 and 196000 plants per feddan, respectively. However, sub-sub plots involved the three studied cultivars viz, Giza 35, Giza 82 Clark.
The measurements of growth characteristics were taken at 40, 55 and 70 days after sowing.
