Abstract
1.1 General Shear walls are introduced into tall buildings for the purpose of resisting translatory movements e.g. those oaused by winds and earthquakes. Many times, however ,for either architectural or environmentalreasons,engineersintroQuce a series of openinr,s intothe shear walls. These openings reduce their efficiency and alter their deformation characteristics. From the standpoint of structural analysis, the problem is highly redundant , and a mathematical analysis for determination of stresses and deformations of shear walls and connecting link beamsis,therefore ,extremely complex.As the analysis of stresses in shear walls is exce-edingly difficult athematically, many researchers(S,13,32, 33) have employed approximate method embodying simplifying assumptions. Other methods of analysis involve a solution of two-dimensional plane-stress state(3,20,21). The usual assumption in these analysis is that of an elastic, homo- geneous and isotropic material •
