Abstract

The present work aimed to determine the incidence of lung affections in sheep . For this purpose , 200 cases of lung affections were collected.
The cases were collected from EL — Anwya battoir , Alexandria province . These specimens were subjected to gross macroscopic and Histopathological studies ; histopathological sections were prepared and stained by routine hematoxyline and eosine stain to confirm the different pathological lesions
In our collected specimens , both acute and chronic
bronchitis and bronchiolitis were observed in majority of our materials.
Alveolar emphysema were common . In many cases , the lung
showed features of pressure collapse which was especially seen in the neighbourhood of parasitic ( hydatid) cysts and emphysematous tissue
On the basis of histopathological findings , the pneumonic
cases were classified into the following
1 - Suppurative pneumonia , observed in 60 cases (30 %) which were characterized by a heaviy infiltration of polymorphnuclear cells
(neutrophils ) to the alveolar wall. The alveolar lumen were obliterated with purulent exudate formed of desquamated epithelial cells and neutrophils Also suppurative bronchitis and bronchiolitis was present
2 - Catarrhal bronchopneumonia was observed in 40 cases ( 20 %), histopathologically , exudative bronchopneumonia characterized the pulmonary lesions in which extensive foci of eoaqulative necrosis were surrounded by inflammatoty cells. Bronchiolar and alveolar lumina were filled with catarrhal or purulent exudate containing neutrophils , macrophages and necrotic debris
3 - Intersitial pneumonia was recognized in 22 cases (11 % ) which is characterized by thickening of the interalveolar septa due to infiltration of a large numbers of mononuclear cells mainly lymphocytes and
macrophages
4- Fibrinous pneumonia was observed in 6 cases ( 3 % ) , different stages of this type of pneumonia were recognized and were identified as in other animal species into a - stage of congestion b - stage of
red hepatization c - stage of grey hepatization d - stage of
resolution .
