Abstract The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate the problem of an agricultural soil subjected to an upward potential gradient. Tile Problem is hydrodynamically treated using the complex func- tions. The basic formulas, the velocity Potential and the stream function, are first established, then a new discharge formula as well as a new spacing formula are presented. Tile Spacing is designed such that water logging of the clay layer is avoided. According to the above solution a flow pattern is dral and boundary conditions are found to be satisfied. A series of experiments are carried out. It show that the flow pattern plotted according to the aforementioned solution has the same features as that obtained through experiments on a sand model. Effects of spacing, L, drain diameter, d, Piezppmetric head, ho, hight of water above drain center midway between two success- ive drains, H, and thickness of -clay layer below drain center, D, on drain discharge are investigated. |
