Abstract
ٍٍStudy of nutrient removal involved the addition of salts as coagulants to determine their effectiveness in removal of phosphorus through chemical precipitation.Our objective was to study the effect of coagulants addition on the phhosphours reduction.
we hypothesizedthat the removal of Phophorus would increase with inncreasing metallic salts concentrations, to certian limit.
Testing to determine chemical requirements and optimum dosages for lime, alum and ferric chloride was conducted in a bench scale in jar system. the use of chemicals to aid removal of suspended solids (ss),chemical oxygen demand (COD) and Phosphorus (P), an initial test (in the influent)was done to compar the effect of alum, lime and ferric chloride for removal phosphorus (P), COD,and SS as well the effect of reaction proucts on their removal. the study results showed that alum removes phosphorus more effectively than lime and ferric chloride.
