Abstract jjigli-rise buildings, the design consideration of lateral loads becomes particularly important. It is necessaryto provide adequate lateral strength and stiffness to the structure. One design alternative, is to ust., reinforced concrete shear walls. The high stiffness of the shear walls in their planes is employed to resist the lateral loads. In countries where wind is the only source of lateral loads acting on high rise buildings, the elastic analysis of shear walls is extremely useful in assessing the behaviour of the structure. On the other hand ,in seismic areas where the structure may be exposed to moderate ar Pvvore earthquakes, the lateral loads may be sufficiently large to cause plastic deformations in some elements of the structure. In some structures, shear walls are terminated by separate footings which exhibit relative vertical displacements and rotations. These displacements and rotations ..are functions of the properties of properties of the supporting medium. Therefore, the point of interest in |
