Abstract The progress in the field of machine tool automation and adaptive control of machine tool resulted in a growing need for automatic inspection techniques. The use of automatic gauging techniques provides continuous and convenient means to monitor product quality, and can supply appropriate information to control and re-adjust the system to etisure consistent accuracy and precision of manufacturing process. The objective of this work is to investigate the capabilities and limitations of the back pressure pneumatic measuring system when used in in-process measurement. The investigation was made to study the effect of the pneumatic system design factors; namely the control orifice and the gauging nozzle dimensions together with the work- piece moving speed on the system dynamic characteristics. The problem was tackled theoretically to study the effect of the above mentioned parameters on the system operating characteristic all(L speed of response. The problem was also treated analy-Acally to study the effect of the measuring conditions together with the configuration of the measured surface on the system |
