Abstract
Genus Datura is a rich source of tropane alkaloids, e• is a great variation in tile alkaloidal pattern cf 3tura species. D. stre.moniwn I. and D. tatula L. ewnulate more hyoscyarnine than hyoscine. However, in so of D metel L. and D, ferox. L., hyoscine is the or alkaloid5.
Hyosoyamine and byascine are considered to be the t inportant tropane alkaloids since they represent the jor alkaloids of solanaceous plants and also due to .ir pbarnacologioal importance.
Recently, N-.oxide of tropane alkaloids have bean o1ated frem different solanaceous plants including tura species. The importance of such tropane alkaloid oxides is attributed to their less toxic pharmacological tion compared to their corresponding tertiary bases. hey cause the same neuroniusculsr exoitebilit’y but without ourarisizig aotion4.
