Abstract
Optical communications is e. new and fast growing field which is , in fact , an intersection of the topics of opti¬cs an”’, communication theory . The present thesis is concer¬ned with the different aspects of laser communication systems-It gives a detailed study of the different components of sich P, system , lists and discusses the in,,portant laser commun ication systems The thesis is divided into five chapters :Chapter I : Gives a qualitative treatinent of laser ac-’U-ion Ushowing different laser types , specLy those used Li communication systems Chapter II : discusses,in a quantitave manner , the different theories and techniques of laser modulation , in particular the electrooptic and acoustooptic modulation processes Chaptern ”har’er III: dealst consists rith laser propaaitio-T of three parts Atmospheric propagatio.a , wave guide propagation and optical fibers Chapter IV: Sivus qualitative and quantitative treatment for the optical detection process The detection noise the important p1lotodetectors,used and -he choice of the suitable photodetectors for each communication syoten, are discussed.details .Chapter V: lists and discusses the important coroqunica¬tion systems including fiber , atmospheric and space communi¬cation systems, .
