Abstract

Transit schedules Cor the Suez Canal have been formed, so as the capacity of the Canal can be determined Cor diff’erent combination of various types of ships, which can transit the Canal Southbound and Northbound where
as in one direction majorly non-stop and in the other direction with stop in the by-Passes (with waiting time). If’ a convoy having the most reasonable number, types and waiting time of ships at the by-Passes and at both ends of the Canal is going to he formed and served, the eff’iciency of the Canal consequently its nlBximum capacity w.r.t these types of ships can he evaluated.
A new approach have been evaluated through which the average waiting time of ships at both ends or the Cani.ll can be determined (where the service is basf’tl OIl convoy basis) and the No. or ships at the ,,,”aiting area nt both ends of the Canal shortly hefore the departure of the convoy and shortly arter the departure of the convoy can be determined.
The basi cal knowledge for such an approach is tlH’ p.Luha¬bility theory.
For the f’ormation of’ the transit schedules as well as
f’or its checking whether it suits existing and future trends in shiphuilding as well as in shipping certain assumptions about the f’low of trafCic at both ends of the Canal have been taken.
