Abstract This study is dealing with the most common marine air conditioning systems, with respect to hot weather considerations. The study had been applied for the Red sea area. The outside design condition has been given a speoial attention. The American Society of Heating,Refrigerating and Air ~ondi tioning Eng- ineers (ASHRAE) method for determination of the outside design condition had been developed and simplified to,.be suitable for marine applications. The original, developed and simplified methods had been applied to Sues-port with a comparative study. The outside design condition for , Suez-port, Gardaga and Ras-Binyas are satisfied using simplified method as well as the inside design Oondi tion. The psychrometric chart has been computerized to improve the aocuracy of the cooling load calculations. A computer program for oalculating the cooling load for a ship has been established to overca.e the complication of the design oalculations. This program stores all oonstants used in marine applications which are recommended by Society of Naval Archeticts and Marine Engineers (SHAME) ~ The air distribution duct system design program is prepared using the static regain method. The program is adjusted to suit the standard duct dimensi ons • All previous work has been applied on ”EI-Areshll ferry &s a case study. The result shows that the calculated cooling load for proposed system is less than the required for existing system by about ten per¬cent when using the recommended outside design condition vi th the same inside design condition, and it is less than three percent when using the same outside and inside design conditions. The required ventilation air rate is the same for both the proposed and existing systems. |
