Abstract
This study was carried on 30 patients with operable gastric carcinoma presented to the surgical oncology unit , Alexandria University Hospital.
Surgical management was done by D2 gastrectomy after proper preoperative staging by CT scan and pathologic diagnosis by biopsy.
All patients were followed in the postoperative period for complications.
The resected specimens were examined for the size of the tumour , its type , depth of penetration (T stage ) and histological grade.
The resected Iymph nodes were examined for their total number , number of involved nodes by tumour and categorized by their anatomical site.
The mean age of the studied patients was 50=9.77 years.
The main clinical presentation was vague upper gastrointestinal symptoms.
Minor postoperative complications occurred in 20% of cases in the form of wound infection and gapping 3 cases , bile leakage 2 cases , ascites 1 cases and chest infection 3 cases.
