Abstract One of the tasks that man is increasingly called to perform in modern industrial situations is quality control inspection. Inspection is essentip-Ily a decision as to whether or not a particular item meets a specified standard. As industrial processes have become more automatic the role of inspection has gninea in importance. Whether to pass or to reject a product has become one of the major decisions in production and consequences of Door inspection may be far-reaching. On one ’hand lack of vigilance or bad judgement in inspection may cause dissatisfaction among customers, showing itself in the return of faulty goods and the loss of customers on the other hand, poor inspection is liable to raise the cost of production by unnecessary stop¬pages of machines or interruptions in the flow of production, or the production of large amounts of waste material throll& failure to take action at the right moment. The faster the machines and processes in industry, the more critical become the decisions and actions of the inspector. One of the common types of inspection tasks usually encountered in industrial situations is the conveyor paced visual inspection task. |
