Abstract

Liquefied petroleum Gases ( LPG), Which contain mainly propane (C3 H.8 ) and
Butanes (C4 H10)are considered the main source of domestic fuel. They are readily condensable to liquids at normal atmospheric temperature by application of pressure. It is this property which renders the gases or mixtures of these gases valuable as fuels.
They may be transported, Stored and handled with the convenience of a liquid. On the other hand, It is possible to distribute them locally and to burn them with all convenience and characteristics of the fuel gas.
The purpose of this study is to increase the production of LPG from the existing ”Abu-Qir” LPG plant located at Abu-Qir Gulf on the east of Alexandria. This plant is operated by ”WESTERN DESERT OPERATING PETROLEUM COMPANY”
(WEPCO) and processes the natural Gases (N. G) produced from Abu-Qir Gulf reservoir.
The study is based on the use of a mixture of two different source of N. G. streams.
The first is the basic gases produced from Abu-Qir Gulf reservoir (processed by WEPCO) the second gas stream which has different composition and properties (new Source) is produced from ”BADR ELDIN ” reservoir, where it is higher in LPG content than the first one. This reservoir is located at the ”WESTERN DESERT” AND processed by ”BADR ELDIN PETROLEUM COMPANY ” (BAPETCO).

This study is the first of its type to be carried out for Abu-Qir LGP plant
The study is composed of two major parts as follows:
1- The first part is a detail engineering study where two gas streams of different properties and composition are fed to the LPG plant in varying proportions to get the operating conditions which maximizes the LPG Production.
2- The second part is an evaluation of the results obtained from the detailed engineering study.
As the recommendations and changes proposed in the pipe-line system in Abu-Qir LPG plant (Fig 3, Aappendix c) is carried out, and the operating results achieved are very near to those predicted by designer, the anticipated annual increase in income due to the increase of LPG production is thus expected, and the play back period of the proposed project is less than three months.
